Without the support of the following funders, organisations and supporters it would have been impossible for Sounds Right to equip itself and to supply the range of positive and accessible training, awareness, skills building and development initiatives it has delivered and continues to deliver.
We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all those listed below:
Winterton and District Branch of Lions: kindly gave us a grant to start up an information pack about Sounds Right and deaf awareness information. This funding has also been used to develop and deliver confidence building and awareness training and to fund a permanent home and development for our web-site.
Workers Education Association (WEA): our thanks go to the WEA for the provision of a meeting room and for funding for our Sign Language workshop tutor.
Orange Communication: funding from Orange Communication allowed us to work with the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe and Stagetext London to bring two caption supported performances to the Plowright. These were fully accessible to hearing impaired people. We also worked with the Plowright to deliver Deaf Awareness training to front of house staff.
Grab a Grand: funding from the North Lincs Domestic Violence Forum allowed us to directly support deaf people whos lives were in some way touched by domestic violence issues. We were also able to carry out domestic violence awareness raising training which was targeted at our members and service providers working with people with hearing loss. We also produced a domestic violence themed newsletter to support this valuable work.
Yorkshire Forward: the community intervention fund administered by Yorkshire Forward provided funding for us to purchase 2 lap top computers and software for electronic note taking.
Awards for All: funded a range of equipment which was needed by our group. This included such things as a display board, storage units and a laminator.
Humberside Learning Consortium Learning Links: this funding allowed us to deliver accessible and supported training in the use of digital cameras and related software to a group of hearing impaired members over a 10 week period.
British Gas: The British Gas Helping Hands Award allowed Sounds Right to purchase a Fax Machine and accessories.
The Co-operative Partnership: allocated funding to us to support our sign language practice workshops.
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young: CGEY provide computer services for CORUS Construction & Industrial in Scunthorpe and have assisted us in specifying, buying, and helping us to use the computer equipment bought with the grant from the ISTC. They have done this through their Community Challenge programme and more recently through the greater involvement of one of their employees, Steve J Lloyd.
GMB Trade Union: kindly gave us a donation for the startup and continuation of the group. The GMB Trade Union (Regional Office and Local Branch) also contributed money to allow us to continue our sign language workshops. The GMB continues to support our work and members through a variety of routes.
Disabilities Coalition of North Lincolnshire (DisC): donated some equipment to our group to assist with start up.
Iron & Steel Trade Congress (ISTC) : The ISTC Trade Unions Millenium Award donated a sum of money to allow Sounds Right to computerise their operations. This has allowed us to expand our horizons into the Internet age and this web-page is a direct result of that.
